In 2000, French conglomerate Vivendi bought Universal Studios from beverage company Seagram, and became Vivendi Universal. Vivendi's game division Havas Interactive was renamed Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing in 2001, and later Vivendi Universal Games. The division was kept by Vivendi after Vivendi Universal Entertainment was sold to NBC and General Electric to form NBC Universal in 2004, (Later rebranded to NBCUniversal in 2011) and was shortened to Vivendi Games. In 2008, it merged with Activision to form Activision Blizzard, although Vivendi would maintain a stake in the company until 2013.
