Development Text

At offset 0xC740 is a version number, which is written to the start of SRAM as a file verification check. If there is a mismatch, all save data is erased.

CHAOS SEED Ver.A

Anti-Piracy

The game checks to ensure it has exactly 8KB of SRAM. This is done by writing two bytes of values at 0xB06A4F and comparing it with 0xB16A4F on every frame to ensure that the SRAM mirror is in the correct location. If this check fails because of a mismatch, the game disables all controller input on the title screen, preventing any further progression. Cartridge copiers tend to include a larger amount of SRAM in order to support a wide variety of games, which trips the anti-piracy check.

Game Genie code 4910-CEA4 will toggle the anti-piracy measure, which is only effective on the title screen.
