As implied above, the Japanese version is branded as a sequel to Joe & Mac (Tatakae Genshijin or "Fighting Cavemen" being the first game's Japanese subtitle), even though it has almost nothing in common with the first game aside from the caveman theme. The International versions goes for an original title instead, adding a cute little monkey to the logo in the process.

Despite the different title, the game is still considered the second one in the series in Europe, as the third game, which actually starred Joe & Mac (and whose Japanese subtitle "Of Course the Main Characters are Joe & Mac" cheekily references their absence from this game) is called Joe & Mac 3 - Lost in the Tropics.

In the US, however, the third game was called Joe & Mac 2 - Lost in the Tropics, dropping this connection.

In addition, the copyright year was bumped up, "DATAEAST" was corrected to "DATA EAST" and the option to start a 2 player game was added to the menu.
