Development Recordings by Insomniac Games

On the 11th of April 2012, Insomniac Games uploaded two videos to their official Youtube channel, both showing early recordings of the game. "R&C Jungle"[1] and "R&C City"[2] respectively. The former was delisted sometime between its release and the 20th of April 2016 and privatized sometime after the 20th of July 2021. The latter was delisted somewhere between its release and the 22nd of November 2014 and also privatized sometime after the 21st of July 2021. This is most likely due to Youtube having decided to privatize every unlisted Video, uploaded before 2017, in 2021. Both have reuploads (which are used here)[3] [4] but the original versions can still be viewed via the wayback machine. [5] [6]

"R&C Jungle"

"R&C Jungle" shows small, tropical islands with beaches at the edges of the ones in the background. It is a location most comparable to Pokitaru in the final game. Multiple buildings can be seen in the background of one of the islands. There is a sunken aircraft in the sea to the left and a crashed aircraft to the right. Ratchet and Clank walk and jump around the island a little bit with first-person view sometimes being used to look around. There are aircrafts flying by. Sounds of birds chirping and the aircrafts, can be heard. There is no music.

"R&C City"

"R&C City" shows an early version of Metropolis, Kerwan. The recording shows an area of Metropolis which has similarities with the opening area of the planet in the final game. Aircrafts are flying through the air. Similarly, there is no music but there are car, truck and honking noises. Ratchet walks and jumps around the small starting area. Ratchet equips three weapons. The first one is an earlier version of the OmniWrench, the second one looks very similar to the suck cannon and the third one could be the blaster. Metropolis looks much more dense with more buildings present.
