Regional Differences

Enemy Zero was first released in Japan in December 1996, and nearly a year later in the West. Outside of localization, some changes were made to address complaints in regards to the game's difficulty. The game was re-released in Japan under the budget "Satakore" line around the same time as well, featuring similar changes to the US/EU versions.

  • A new "Beginner" difficulty option was added in the US/EU versions. Its changes include:
    • The Voice Recorder starts with 99 battery life. Saving costs 1 point, and loading is free.
    • Guns come pre-charged and can fire more shots before needing to be recharged.
    • There are fewer enemies.
  • The JP Satakore re-release instead features a "Special Easy" option. It includes all of the same changes as US/EU's "Beginner", except for the fact that both saving and loading are free.
