The third of the mainline Bishi Bashi games. Gameplay-wise, it's not much different from its precedessors; simply just button-mashing minigames which may or may not include weird premises.

Unused Graphics

Test Graphic

A test graphic of some sorts, which doesn't appear even in the game's operator menu.

Hyperbishibashi-test.png

Time Up!

A "Time Up!" graphic. It is never used, and is even left untranslated in the game's localizations.

First Revisions

The first revisions of the game have a time notation after the build date text, but it's not displayed.

Version Differences

There are six documented versions of the game, spanning two revisions:

  • GQ876 - The first version of the game, released on a dedicated cabinet.
    • ver.JAD - The original Japanese release.
    • ver.AAA - An Asian localization, known as hyperbbca in MAME.
    • ver.EAA - An European localization, known as hyperbbc in MAME.
    • ver.KAA - A Korean localization, known as hyperbbck in MAME.
  • GX908 - A version of the game meant for generic cabinets, released a year after the original.
    • ver.JAA - The Japanese release, known as hypbbc2p in MAME.
    • ver.KAA - A Korean localization, known as hypbbc2pk in MAME.

General

  • While the original release loads content from flash ROMs, the revision loads from a CD.
  • The dedicated cabinet version has a limit of three players per cabinet, which was shortened to two in the revision.

Title Screen/Attract

  • The Konami logo was updated in the second revisions.
GQ876 GX908
Hyperbishibashi-oldkonami.png Hyperbishibashi-newkonami.png
  • This game has a functionality which allows two machines to be connected, allowing for 6 (GQ876) or 4 (GX908) players to play together. It appears this function was going to be promoted a little more in the game's attract sequence, aside from the game's intro, but it never seems to be the case. While these graphics can be found unused in the Asian and European versions of the first release, they were completely blanked out from both Korean versions.
  • Several backgrounds in the intro sequence were altered in the localizations to remove depictions of the player characters from the HAIR minigame:
JP AS/KR/EU
Hyperbishibashi-introAJP.png Hyperbishibashi-introAAS.png
In this comic book-styled background, the character was changed to the coach from the same minigame. In addition, the color of the graphic is slightly redder.
Hyperbishibashi-introBJP.png Hyperbishibashi-introBAS.png
In this illustrated background, the dancers were replaced with cats, which don't seem to be taken from any specific minigame.
Hyperbishibashi-introCJP.png Hyperbishibashi-introCAS.png
This modified screenshot of the HAIR minigame was replaced with a screenshot from the EAT'EM minigame.

Name Entry

Each of the game's regional variants contain different name choices, with the Japanese version having 64, the Korean versions 60, and the Asia/Europe versions 52. The names are identical between the first and second revisions.

Minigames

Gameplay

  • Before each minigame begins, a splash screen displaying its title appears. While in the Japanese release the background of this screen consists of a simple texture displaying the game's title, it was changed to a slightly rugged texture with no text in the localizations.
JP AS/KR/EU
Hyperbishibashi-splashBGJP.png Hyperbishibashi-splashBGEU.png
  • The Japanese releases highlight certain words in the minigame splash graphics, mostly using yellow text, though other colors such as cyan and red can also be seen. The localizations, however, seem to have their own rules regarding how should text be colored in these splash screens:
    • In the Asian and European releases, all upper-case letters are highlighted in yellow. The lower-case letter "a", numbers, and lone exclamation marks/interrogation points are highlighted in magenta. In the case of double exclamation marks, the first one is highlighted in yellow and the second one in magenta.
    • In the Korean release, the first character of each section of a minigame's title is highlighted, always in an alternating order of magenta, then yellow. Exclamation marks and interrogation points are also highlighted in the order after the initial character, though it is always "reset" a new section is reached (e.g. if the last character of the first section is a yellow exclamation mark, the first character of the second section will also be yellow, rather than magenta).

Names

Cacti may speak Japanese, but do they speak it well?
...But does it make sense?
The translations on this page need to be proofread. If you are fluent enough in this language, please make any corrections necessary!

Each of the localized versions have fewer minigames than the original Japanese releases, as noted below. Despite not being available, they still have their associated graphics unused in the data. The reference listed below takes in consideration the order in which these minigames appear in the "Choose Your Game" screen. For the sake of readability, the text styling applied to the Asian/European titles will not be displayed here.
