The game that started it all! Lemmings is a puzzle-platformer video game that consists of trying to solve puzzles with small creatures that can be told to do a number of things, like climbing up walls, building stairs, digging their way through tunnels, using parachutes, and most importantly, exploding into particles.
The DOS port of the game was among the first released by the series' original developer and publisher, alongside Amiga and Atari ST.
Unused Objects
(Note: all graphics shown here are for the game's VGA graphics display mode. The game also supports EGA, CGA and Tandy, which feature same graphics but with modified palettes based on the capabilities of those graphics hardware. VGA mode supports the most variety of colors.)
The following deadly trap is unused by any levels in the game.
The following green and blue flag objects are unused by the game because 2-player mode was not ported to DOS. (In 2-player mode they would've been used to mark each team's exit.)
Unused Text
Mousing over a lemming gives a 7-character identifier. "SPLATTR" appears between Faller and Athlete in the list of Lemming types. Lemmings killed by a trap don't appear on mouseover, and those who die of falling damage don't change their identifier, so this never appears.
Sound Driver Test Text
The following text can be found in adlib.dat after the game loads and decompresses the data in the file (e.g. you can retrieve it from a memory dump of the running game). It appears to be for a sound test used by developers, which is not currently known to be accessible from the game itself in any way. adlib.dat is actually a sound driver for the game containing (after decompression) executable code; it is currently unknown whether it also contains the code for the sound test as well.
The text in effect gives names to all the music tracks in the game, which aren't otherwise displayed anywhere in the game itself.
