Mappy Kids is what happens when Mappy gets busy.

Secret Cheats

This game has a very odd cheat enabling procedure. While the title screen is waiting for any button to be pressed before the demo sequence, holding some buttons increases the internal counters, which is compared with some values after starting a game.

Counters are 8-bit values that cycle repeatedly from 00 - FF, each cycle taking about 8 seconds. To trigger the cheat, hold the corresponding buttons for the particular time for each button in any order.

Obviously, it's difficult enough to trigger these cheats without any visual guidance.

Sound Test

Mappy Kids-soundtest.png
  • Hold A on Controller 2 for about 5-7 seconds (counter value should be between B4 - F0).
  • Hold B on Controller 2 for about 3-4 seconds (counter value should be between 3C - 78).
  • Hold Select on Controller 1 for about 4-5 seconds (counter value should be between 78 - B4).
  • Press Start on Controller 1.

Press Up / Down to select a music/sound effect, press A to play it.

Extra 20 Lives

  • Hold B on Controller 1 for about 3-4 seconds (counter value should be between 5A - 78).

Regional Differences

Hmmm...
To do:
More comparisons between the versions

Mappy Kids remained Japan-exclusive until it was eventually released internationally as part of Namco Museum Collection 1 for the Evercade. This release contains an official English localization of the Famicom game.
