This page details pre-release information and/or media for Makaimura for WonderSwan.

WonderSwan Website Software Index (~May 1999)

On the official WonderSwan website, Bandai posted screenshots of their upcoming games. This included a low quality screenshot of the main menu on the page for Makaimura for Wonderswan. This image is almost the same as the final, but LIBRARY is misspelt as "LIBLARY".

The skulls and thorns do seem to be slightly different, but that is likely due to the low quality of the image, rather than being indicative of an intentional change.

Screenshots from the Back of the Box

On the back of the box, there are three screenshots of the game. These screenshots were likely taken a little bit before the game was finalised so the game could be shipped sooner. This means that there are some differences between these screenshots and the final game.

In each screenshot, the font used for time was changed from a blockier font to the more calligraphic font present in the final game. In this first section, the hand enemy does spawn in the final game if either two of the spitting fish enemies or the piranha enemy is killed. If we try to mirror the screenshot by killing the piranha enemy, the screen is scrolled too far and so the hand cannot be spawned anyway. Therefore, it is likely that the piranha enemy was not present in that area in the prerelease version.

Another thing worth noting is that the background graphics are far darker in the prerelease images than in the final game. Whether this was a creative choice or simply due to the way they captured the screenshots is hard to determine, but given the degree of how dark the background and platforms are, it is possible this is how the game looked at one point.

This screenshot of Stage 3B seems to show that the rope used in this area was originally a lot shorter, which would have made it a lot harder to progress.
