Build Date
The demo builds are both dated May 29, 2006, around one month before the retail build and 4 months prior to the final game's release.
Demo Lockouts
- You are restricted to Pikachu as the hero character, and Charmander as your partner character.
- The demo doesn't allow you to choose a name for Pikachu. As a result, the game skips the part where you input a name.
- Because of the lack of name entry, the game defaults to Pokémon as your team's name.
- The demo is limited to 10 minutes of gameplay.
- Only two dungeons can be explored, those two being Tiny Woods and Thunderwave Cave. The demo will end if you complete these two dungeons.
Playing as other Pokémon
82038206 ???? - Hero 8203826A ???? - Partner
Using an Action Replay code, you can replace the hero and partner characters, and play as a few other Pokémon; namely the starter Pokémon found in the demo's opening cutscene. These Pokémon lack face portraits, however, but their overworld sprites contain the movement sprites necessary for gameplay (including the Team Salute animation, which the game needs or else the game will crash). Some risk crashing the game, however.
Title Screen
The title screens for both demos are nearly identical to the final game's, aside from a "Demo" graphic in either green for Red Rescue Team, or in red for Blue Rescue Team.

Warning Screen
Both demos display a seizure warning at boot. Red Rescue Team would later replace this screen with a Health And Safety warning screen in the final game, while Blue Rescue Team removes this screen entirely.

Gameplay Differences
The gameplay is extremely similar to the final game, with a few notable differences.
Inside The Base
Since saving is disabled in the demo, the tutorial lacks the part where you need to rest and save the game, afterwards meeting your partner. The demo version also starts later, when the hero is confused about their predicament.
The demo version will display the confused portrait, while the final game will display the neutral portrait instead.
The remake would however retain the confused portrait from the demo version, due to the remake's auto-saving feature which removed the part mentioned earlier.
