Proto:The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall/November 1995 Demo
This is a sub-page of Proto:The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.
| Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors. This page contains content that is not safe for work or other locations with the potential for personal embarrassment. Such as: Nipples in three different colors! |
| To do: Move over what's in common with the October 1995 demo to that page. |
A slightly fixed up version of the October 1995 demo. This one has a few things changed and added, but also a few things removed. This one is slightly easier to find than the October 1995 demo, being in more compilation CDs from the time and being the demo chosen for the Daggerfall Interactive Preview disc.
The demo can be downloaded over here.

Gameplay Differences
- A disclaimer now pops up when the player is dropped into the dungeon.
- The player has a Level 16 Male Breton Spellsword rather than a female. The female Spellsword can still be accessed through z.cfg (i.e. changing gender from 0 to 1). However, some display glitches occur, such as using the wrong body graphic for the inventory screen. The clothed graphic is still in the game, though.
- The player can now use upper-case letters in the notebook unlike the previous demo.
- Bow weapons have been removed, due to the tendency to crash.
- The pit area in the room with the suspended bridge is now filled with water.
Book Differences
For the most part, the books are the same as in the October 1995 demo. However, they've now got parts IX and X of King Edward. Ghraewaj, A Scholar's Guide to Nymphs, and From The Memory Stone of Makela Leki are all present here too and are virtually the same as their final counterparts.
That said, an additional file was accidentally included...

Aesthetic Differences
- Enemies all use the same corpse graphic.
- There's a minor glitching where two cursors can be seen by moving the mouse while moving the character and navigating the menu at the same time.
Spellbook
The spellbook uses the same UI style as the final version. However, hidden within the demo's graphic files, there is an earlier version of the spellbook, with more primitive graphics.
| Unused Spellbook | Demo & Final Spellbook |
|---|---|
Logbook
The "Go To" button was removed and the exit button became red. Also, some extra space was added to make the paper more symmetrical.

Bodies
Some of the bodies were altered between the demo and the final.
| This needs some investigation. Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page. Specifically: Are the neck changes also done on other body types or just these? |
Character Faces
All of them were changed to some extent.

The skeleton now has the same weaponry and gait as the final version, but with double the amount of frames still. The final version also has a different skull and uses a duller palette, even omitting the red glow from the skull down onto the ribcage.

Completely redrawn mossy polygonal masonry, moving from flat block faces to rounded ones and more voluminous moss.

Highlights and some cracks are added to the board as well as some nails, one of which is weeping moisture into the wall. The nails might be to help with establishing the wall's fill being made of wood, as it can interpreted as layers of rock otherwise.

Although Morgiah doesn't show up at any point in the demo version, she does have a sprite. The demo sprite bears more of a resemblance to the unused alternate sprite from TEXTURE.180. In turn, the alternate sprite is smaller than the final sprite. The cat in the demo sprite is a white cat, while the final uses a browner cat. Her pose was slightly altered for the final version, too. A still version of her demo sprite still exists under TEXTURE.197.
TEXTURE.321 contains two odd textures that are completely absent from the final version, likely artist doodles.
Misc. Notes
- A cheat menu can be activated in this demo simply by pressing ALT and Q during gameplay. However, it is broken, since a lot of options don't work or crash the game.
