Oh look, it's Raiden for the TurboGrafx-16 (or PC Engine, depending on where you live)!

It's considered one of the best ports of the arcade game. Unsurprisingly, it got a CD version a year later.

Unused Music

This is the Game Over and Name Entry theme, intended to play when you lose your last life. However, this port (as well as Super Raiden) does not feature a Game Over screen or a scoreboard. If you choose not to continue, or use up all your credits, the game immediately returns to the title screen, leaving this theme unused.

Since NEC published the game in North America, the US title screen included the mandatory "FROM NEC" label. Additionally, the registered trademark symbol was replaced with a standard trademark symbol and moved from the top-right of the logo to beside the "RAIDEN" text.

To fit the "FROM NEC" text, the "PUSH RUN BUTTON" was moved one pixel above.

Miscellaneous

  • By default, the Japanese version gives you three credits to continue. The US version, mercifully, increases the amount to six, considering how this game is very difficult.
