So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is the first PS3 Ratchet & Clank title and the first in the Future trilogy. The game marks a return to Insomniac's development of the series after High Impact Games managed Size Matters. This time, Ratchet and Clank are on the run from the Cragmite Emperor Percival Tachyon, who really seems to despise Lombaxes for some reason.

"Your name's Percival?"

"EMPEROR!"

Unused Power-ups

In addition to the Jackpot power-up found in the final game, there are several more power-ups that go unused that range from partially implemented to fully functional. These are the Cloak, Electrified, Krome, Overdrive, Particalized, and Plasma Shield power-ups. The power-ups can be given to the player by using the hero_give_powerup script function. Each of the power-ups have a voiced helpdesk message and text appear when first acquired, except for the Particalized power-up which has the script code responsible for playing its message commented out.

Cloak

"Cloaking will make you temporarily invisible to enemies. Please note that cloaking is prohibited in Locker Rooms and Slumber Parties."

RCFToD-Cloak.png

The Cloak power-up turns Ratchet partially transparent and makes him invisible to enemies. While Cloaked, enemies won't react to Ratchet's presence, even when bumping into them or while being directly attacked. Some objects which aren't obviously enemies, such as the Tachyon flamethrower statues on Mukow, are also affected by Cloak. Enemies in the Imperial Fight Festival arena are not affected by Cloak, as the game sets them to be aware of Ratchet as soon as they spawn. Strangely, Ratchet can't squish Drophyds by standing on them while Cloaked.

Electrified

"When Electrified, you can damage enemies simply by touching them."

RCFToD-Electrified.png

The Electrified power-up creates a sphere of electricity around Ratchet that causes any enemy that touches him to take damage. It will also periodically emit a bolt of lightning that can strike enemies some distance away, similar to tornadoes launched from the Tempest Launcher (or the Clank Zapper from Going Commando). Like the Shock Ravager and Mag-net Launcher, the Electrified power-up cannot harm electrified enemies, such as Nanny-bots or Swabs. In addition to dealing damage, the power-up also makes Ratchet invulnerable to enemy attacks.

Krome

"When Kromed, non-electrical enemies cannot harm you."

The Krome power-up makes Ratchet invulnerable to damage. The helpdesk message suggests that it was intended to only block damage from non-electrical attacks, but as it is implemented it blocks all damage, including electrical attacks. Unlike the other power-ups, there is no special visual effect when Ratchet is Kromed.

Overdrive

"The Overdrive power-up allows you to deal massive damage to enemies."

RCFToD-Overdrive.png

The Overdrive power-up increases the amount of damage Ratchet deals to enemies with his attacks. While Overdrive is active, Ratchet gains a glowing red aura around him. The damage increase seems to be around +50%. All weapons are affected by Overdrive, including the OmniWrench.

Particalized

"You have just been Particalized! This amazing power-up temporarily increases your speed."

"You have just been Particalized! This amazing power-up temporarily increases your speed, while allowing enemy attacks to phase right through you."

RCFToD-Particalized.png RCFToD-Particalized-Closeup.png

The Particalized power-up turns Ratchet into particles, similar to Cragmites when they particalize. Other than the visual appearance, the Particalized power-up has no other effects. According to its unused helpdesk messages, the power-up would have made Ratchet faster and potentially also made him immune to enemy attacks. Interestingly, the particles themselves use a black cockroach symbol as their texture.

Plasma Shield

"The Plasma Shield puts up a temporary barrier that blocks enemy attacks."

RCFToD-PlasmaShield.png

The Plasma Shield power-up places a spherical, blue shield around Ratchet that makes him invulnerable to all enemy attacks, similarly to the Shield Charger from Going Commando. The shield lights up whenever Ratchet takes a hit, but this is purely cosmetic as the shield will last until its duration has run out. The Swingshot cannot be used while the Plasma Shield is active.

Unused Ship Transition

Using the address 102034FB on the European version of the game and setting it to 3 forces this unused ship transition screen to appear, and this screen is 4 times longer than any other ship transition screen in the game. This was likely just used for testing purposes.

Unused Areas

Ublik Passage

Unused Platform

This platform can be found way above Ratchet's ship. The purpose of this is likely just decoration.

Unused Ship Docking Platform

There is this unused ship docking station on the left side of the map that has these early explosive barrels laying around. Note that it locks Ratchet's axis while being on the ship.

Partially Unused Arena Ring

Half of the outer ring of the first arena goes unused, suggesting the player was meant to go around the arena instead of through the center. Also note the unused yellow barrels present here.

Unused Gyro Cycle Segment

Ublik Passage contains an entire unused segment that likely involved using the Gyro Cycle Gadget to open a door. The path can be partially explored in-game with use of glitches, but the area is not fully explorable due to a death zone preventing the player from getting far and a missing tri-pad. That means that whatever they activated can't be confirmed. This area was partially reused in a secret area before the level's boss fight. However, it is only briefly seen as the player automatically flies through the room with no way of stopping the gyro-cycle.

Reepor

Debug Trigger

Reepor has a debug trigger at the end of its main combat segment that was likely used for testing purposes, because the only thing it does is transform you into Clank and teleports you to the Clank segment. The video shows that you can get there using glitches, as the game normally would play a cutscene that transitions you into the Clank segment before you can get to that trigger.

Explosive Barrels

An early version of the explosive barrel can be found in the unused Ublik passage areas. They glow yellow instead of red like those seen in normal pirate levels.
