Bootleg

Since when was this a bootleg? --SMASH SMASHES ITSELF WHEN MegaSuperab JOINS IN!! (talk) 20:31, 22 July 2016 (EDT)

The unlicensed Tengen US release. -Phrossi (talk) 21:18, 22 July 2016 (EDT)

What is it for?

Does anybody know what the little yellow quarter-circle in the top-left corner is for? Probably supposed to fall off during overscan, my 3DS Virtual Console copy doesn't have it visible. Legitendo (talk) 07:06, 18 October 2018 (EDT)

It looks like the code clears sprite memory (OAM) to all zeros. This means all sprites are set to tile zero, sprite palette zero, and an (X,Y) position of (0,0), which causes the visible quarter-circle graphic in the top-left corner. As you said, this mistake probably went unnoticed because it was cropped out on contemporary TVs. (The way to hide sprites is to set the Y position to hex EF to FF. Other games often initialize the entire sprite memory to some value in that range to ensure no sprites are shown.) --Bavi H (talk) 21:56, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
