Card e Room
In the Japanese version, the unofficially titled Card e Room is unlocked after completing the main story and can be found through left door in the Phenac Stadium lobby. In the Card e Room, VR Trainers can be battled by scanning Battle e-cards. In the international versions of the game, both doors in the lobby lead to the battle area, making the Card e Room inaccessible (oddly, the Card e Room is still visible in the demo that plays after waiting on the title screen). Despite being inaccessible through normal means, the Card e Room is left unused in the international versions with a rough and incomplete English translation. Text is only translated in the PAL release in both the Card e Room and menu in card_e.fdat.
When the Card e Room is accessed in the North American release, the Japanese version of an e-Reader and Pokémon Colosseum's e-Reader cards function (of course, the Japanese e-Reader will still display Japanese text).
Europe never got the e-Reader at all, and fittingly, the European version of the game is unable to connect to the e-Reader. When entering the Card e Room or the Virtual Capsule with cheats, the NPC dialogue and menu text are missing when playing with the English language setting, and it's left untranslated from Japanese when playing in any other language. The file for the English text is still present, but empty, and it can be changed so the room functions mostly fine. However, the game would seemingly never be able to connect with the e-Reader, so card data cannot be loaded into the game.
Phenac Stadium is the only battle area in Colosseum designated as "underwater" like underwater areas in other Pokémon games. Since the only Shadow Pokémon fought in Phenac Stadium are only available via e-Reader functionality, the Card e Room is the only way to see the Dive Ball's 3.5× catch rate multiplier for underwater areas in the game, making this attribute impossible to see normally in the international versions.
To enter it, visit the basement of the Phenac City Pokémon Center with this Action Replay code:

Like most e-Reader content that is normally inaccessible in the international versions, the song that plays in the Card e Room's menus, "virtual", is still present.
e-Reader NPCs
On the right side of the room, talking to the attendant at the desk allows a connection with an e-Reader, providing a guide through the connection process.

The data for the Virtual Capsule is stored in carde_menu. The default battlefield is always Phenac Stadium, but each Battle Pack comes with a card to change the battlefield to any of the game's Colosseum battlefields. Some of the text is shared between both Panel Mode, Endless Mode, and the intro menu.

Panel Mode
In Panel Battle mode, VR Trainers can be battled by scanning Trainer cards into the e-Reader. Defeating a VR Trainer fills in their respective panel. Trainers that have been defeated cannot be re-challenged in this mode. Panel Mode has three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Difficult. The player must progress through by defeating every Trainer in the current difficulty level.
Special bonus VR Trainers will also appear. The regular and promotional cards act differently in this respect. The Double Battle e-cards and the two promotional cards are treated as three separate Panel Battle challenges, switchable by scrolling vertically. With the regular Double Battle e-cards when a row (a pack of a given color) is completed in a given difficulty a bonus VR Trainer will appear to challenge the player. With the promotional cards the bonus VR Trainer only appears after the player has defeated the card's featured Trainer in each of the three difficulty levels.
Each VR Trainer defeated in the Panel Battle mode earns the player Poké Coupons, with the bonus VR Trainers also awarding an additional item.

When scanning the data for a battle pack in Panel Mode, they're displayed with their respective colors (Red, Blue, Yellow, or Green). The promotional e-Cards released with the Winter 2004 Pokemon Scoop magazine and the Japanese Strategy Guide use Pink and Sky Blue, respectively. The Grey and Light Green colors remained unused.

Endless Mode
The Endless Battle mode is unlocked after defeating the most difficult Panel Battle Trainers.
Endless Battle is an endurance challenge against all of the VR Trainers available in Panel Battle mode. Before each battle the player must scan one of their Double Battle e cards which will begin a fight with that Trainer. Endless Battle is always set to Difficult mode and the player's Pokémon are not healed between battles. Every five battles the player will be automatically taken to a battle against a random bonus Trainer from the Panel Battle mode. This bonus Trainer may also be one of the bonus Trainers included with the promotional cards Hunter Bit or Team Snagem Gaku, but only if the player has defeated their Difficult mode in Panel Battle. If the bonus Trainer is defeated the player will be awarded Poké Coupons and be prompted to scan another card. After the player has defeated a Trainer they cannot scan that Trainer's card again until they have defeated 20 card Trainers and 4 bonus Trainers, after which all cards will be able to be scanned again to prevent the player from running out of opponents. The bonus Trainers do not have this restriction and can potentially repeat even before the player has defeated 24 Trainers.

After the player has won 30 battles in a row, no more Poké Coupons will be awarded until the player loses a battle and the win streak is reset, but the game would prompt a message in intervals of 30 battles. Despite this, there's an unused texture for a star with the number 30 that would be used after reaching the threshold, which goes unused for some reason.

Glitch/Placeholder Trainers
Inside carde_ fsys, there's data for a whole set of dummy cards that were seemingly used by the developers for testing purposes under the name cardXX.bin, but these cards first need to be decoded to then change a small of their info in hex, so they can be converted to .raw files so they may be used with the e-Reader hardware. When loaded, they appear in their own set under the name "Genius Sonority", but the numbers for all trainers is organized from bottom to top and from right to left. Unlike with the officially released cards, the trainers in these cards don't match in name and trainer class when progressing with their difficulty and may even use items in battle. Additionally, the Pokémon have random EV and IV stats, and some of them even use moves that they cannot learn under any circumstances.
