Developmental timeline
2007
- 12 July - DiRT 2 has been confirmed to be in development and is in production stage.[1]
2008
- 19 November - DiRT 2 got announced[2].
2009
- 21 January - The dirt2game.com domain gets registered.
- 27 March - Teaser Trailer has been released[3].

- 4 June - A DiRT 2 build got revealed on E3 2009.

Differences
User Interface
- The User Interface used blue colors instead of green.
- Menu press sound is different
- Menu animations are different
- Loading spinner had faster speed and was more whiter and the text had inverted color.
- The mini map in HUD had background like in DiRT.
- Replay circle was different
Cars
- Ken Block's Subaru Impreza WRX STI car has some livery differences.
Cinematics
- The race pre-start camera is static, not cinematic seen in final game.
Locations
- Most of the tracks don't have sponsor boards yet.
London
- The Power Station banner had Battersea Battle logo instead of just London.
- The lighting and sky were different
- The projector seen in night tracks projected DC Shoes logo.
Gameplay
- Race end camera has been disabled, possibly because it wasn't still finished yet.
Deleted Drivers

References to various scrapped drivers can be found in the game's internal database code. Chief game designer Paul Coleman confirmed that these drivers were completely cut at some point in development.
