Careful, you'll lose an eye.
This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

A prototype of the PS2 version of LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game was released by Hidden Palace on March 20, 2021 as part of Project Deluge.

Dated January 10, 2005, this appears to be a pretty early build. Despite this point in development being only three months from release, it contains a lot of debug features and even has the unused Anakin's Flight level fully intact. It also features plenty of differences compared to the final build.

General Differences

Prototype Final
Save your game, you must. Save completed, it has.
  • The icon used for saving the game features a fully modeled PS2 Memory Card with Yoda's face on it, as opposed to just having Yoda's face be the icon for saving the game. The design for Yoda's head also appears to be slightly different in the model.
  • The iconic loading screen with the headshot icons for Player 1 and Player 2 has not yet been implemented.
  • Studs are called Coins here.
  • The light setup for every single level uses the same plain presets.
  • The Force effect has a more primitive appearance. The effect is made out of lots of blurred circles instead of a glowing aura.
  • Quitting to the title screen and then starting a new game will spawn you in as the characters you had equipped before quitting.
  • Hints don't have Dexter's face on them.
  • The swirling effects around Blaster grapple spots are green.
  • The opening text crawls can only be seen when entering a level from the hub, but they always cut off a few seconds in.

Characters

Obi-Wan Kenobi

  • His death sound effect is much higher pitched.

Queen Amidala

  • She has a red Blaster instead of a revolver.

Yoda

Prototype Final
Early model, this is. Looking spiffy I now am.
  • Yoda's model is totally different, using a lower-quality version. His model in the prototype is still used in his icon in the final game. This version of Yoda does not have a moving mouth or eyes.

Commander Cody/Clone (Episode III)

  • Commander Cody is called "Clone (Episode III, Sand)."
  • The Swamp clone has a green secondary color instead of a blue one. The green colors still appear in the clone's icon in the final game.
  • All clones have a red Blaster instead of a blue one.

Droideka

  • Being electrocuted by an astromech droid won't temporarily remove its shield.
  • Its shield color will appear inverted on reflecting floors (like shiny marble floors).

Geonosian

  • It's impossible to switch characters in Free Play as the Geonosian unless you tag a teammate who is not a Geonosian. The Geonosian will also not be equippable in the list of your teammate's characters.

Grievous' Bodyguard

  • The MagnaGuards have red staffs instead of pink.

Darth Sidious

Prototype Final
I am the Senate. Looks like this new design is fully operational.
  • Darth Sidious has an early design and early animations. He has a yellow skin tone that resembles his first official minifigure from the year 2000, and he also borrows animations from other characters in this build instead of having his own unique ones. His icon also reflects his early design.

Princess Leia

Prototype Final
You are going to actually implement Leia, right? That's better.
  • She's nearly missing from this version of the game - she doesn't show up in the cutscenes for the Episode IV bonus and she isn't purchasable in the diner. While she does appear in the bonus level "A New Hope", she uses the model of Padmé as a placeholder.

Unused Text

Jedi Battle Text Crawl

Prototype Final
In their attempt to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi on the planet Geonosis, Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala have been captured by Jango Fett.
Obi-Wan has sent a distress signal to the Jedi Council. But hopes of rescue seem remote as the Separatist leader Count Dooku oversees their execution...

Obi-Wan has sent a distress signal to the Jedi Council. But hopes of rescue seem remote, as the evil Separatist leader Count Dooku oversees their execution...

The Jedi Battle text crawl can be found in the game data nearly identical to the final version. However, in this build of the game, Jedi Battle erroneously uses Droid Factory's text crawl, leaving this one unused.

Count Dooku Text Crawl

Prototype Final
The Army of the Republic has been called into action. Led by Mace Windu and Yoda, the new Clone forces are engaging the Separatist droid armies on the planet Geonosis.
As the battle rages, the Separatist leader Count Dooku flees to his secret hangar. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker give chase...
As the battle rages between the Clone forces of the Republic and the Separatist droid army, the Separatist leader Count Dooku flees to his secret hangar.
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker follow closely behind, prepared for a final showdown with the Sith Lord...

This text crawl does not appear at all in the game due to Count Dooku being inaccessible through the hub. The text crawl was entirely rewritten for the final build. The first half of the early version is similar to the final build's Gunship Cavalry crawl.
