Hmmm...
To do:
  • Is there any other unused content in the files? Also, find a nicer way to format what's here.
  • English, Spanish, and French text differences between the North American and European versions.
  • RomFS\mess\KR_Korean.zdat appears to be completely unused, as the game seemingly never saw a Korean release. Though it appears to be a simple placeholder as most of the files within appear to be identical to the ones in RomFS\mess\JP_Japanese.zdat, including mostly unlocalized Japanese text. However, its test.msbt appears to have some differences, along with RI.mstl.
  • Look into the RI.mstl files found within most archives in RomFE\mess. They appear to be slightly different in each archive.

Mario Party: The Top 100 is the third and final installment in the Mario Party series for the 3DS. It is a compilation of minigames taken from previous games in the series, upgraded with new graphics, sound, amiibo functionality, online capabilities, and slightly tweaked rulesets for some minigames.

Unused Text

Hmmm...
To do:
Check the formatting on these. A lot of these messages seem to include codes that likely correspond to things like symbols in the game's fonts.

RomFS\mess\US_English.zdat\test.msbt

Found within most archives at RomFS\mess is a file called test.msbt, a file inherited from Mario Party: Star Rush that contains various test strings. While most are unremarkable, this file contains strings that reference a handful of popular films and manga.

Unused Audio

Test Audio

Found in RomFS\sound\stream is a single audio file called TES_JIN_MGH_TEST.dspadpcm.bcstm. It is, disappointingly, four seconds of silence.

(Source: CometMedal)

Let's Get A Move On

RomFS\sound\stream contains an audio file named SM_BGM_MG014.dspadpcm, which is a remix of "Let's Get A Move On" from Mario Party 3. This suggests that at least one of the following minigames had been planned for Mario Party: The Top 100 at one point:

  • Aces High
  • Dizzy Dinghies
  • Ridiculous Relay
  • Water Whirled

Pandemonium

In Mario Party: The Top 100's song directory RomFS\sound\stream, there is a file called SM_BGM_MG037.dspadpcm. It is a remix of Mario Party 9's minigame theme "Pandemonium", which suggests that at one point at least one of the following minigames was planned for Mario Party: The Top 100:

  • Flinger Painting
  • Fungi Frenzy
  • Hazard Hold

Mini-Game Win (Unused)

RomFS\sound\stream contains an audio file named SM_JIN_MG_WIN.dspadpcm. It's a remix of the minigame victory theme from Mario Party: Star Rush, suggesting that initially, this theme should be used for all the minigames of Mario Party: The Top 100 (unlike the final version, which is one theme for each Mario Party minigame that the respective minigame is), just like the minigame lose and tie themes.
