Paper Mario: Sticker Star is an example of an installment that's okay on its own merits, but is often considered an inferior game in comparison to its predecessors and, to a lesser degree, its successors.

Hmmm...
To do:

Removed Followers

Contained within the files kdm_char_data.bin and kdm_char_viewer.bin are references to various removed followers. These were actually the partners that were present in pre-release versions.

Internal
Name
Analysis
p_wanwan The Chain Chomp partner from the E3 2010 trailer. Animation data referencing a collar is still present, which seems to suggest that it had a unique design made before being cut from the game.
p_kuribo_g A Goomba, interestingly referred to as both Goombario and a Galoomba across kdm_char_data.
p_slit Unknown, referred to as "Slit-san" (Mr. Slit) in kdm_char_data. "slit" refers to the paper mode ability present in The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario.
p_lucie An early version of Kersti. The counterpart used in the final game is p_lucie02.

Early Sticker Scripts

Found in Script/Battle/Player are btl_mario_water_pistol.bin and btl_mario_water_pistol_test.bin which contain early scripts for the Water Pistol sticker.

Notably, the final version is contained in btl_mario_water_pistol_test2.bin.

Unused Cutscene

Hmmm...
To do:
Is there any internal info that could give a clue what this was for?

This cutscene is normally inaccessible, as you cannot bring any of Wiggler's Segments to 1-3, however if you modify the game to allow yourself to, this cutscene plays upon entering the room.
The fifth entry Wiggler's Diary is also unlocked in the process, that being the one relating to Surfshine Harbor.

Unused Text

Hmmm...
To do:
Add missing descriptions, filenames, string names and IDs, placement relative to other strings when relevant, make pre tags stack vertically

General

These are alongside the item pickup names for the Hammer, HP-Up Heart, and Book of Sealing. There is no name display when you pick up coins in the final game. This text is only present in the American English, American Spanish, American French, and Japanese languages, and is blanked in every other language.

A plural version of "away_single_kino_system_mess". A stack of Toads follows you in Warm Fuzzy Plains, but this system message never appears. Running into an enemy doesn't cause the Toads to leave, they have different dialogue if you leave the level, and no system message appears when they form the stairs. This text is not present in any of the European translations.

Prologue

Kersti

This dialogue is supposed to appear if the player peels the Jump sticker off the Toad's head, then attempts to leave it there. Kersti will indicate the sticker and tell Mario to pick it up. After he does, she gives him the album.

This is impossible to see in the final game as Mario's movement is halted until the end of the cutscene, after which he will always collect the sticker and trigger the "first sticker collected" scene that gives him the album. He can peel off other stickers, not pick them up, and run away or let them despawn, but that does not trigger any response from Kersti. There is no rucy_seal_first_1 or rucy_seal_first_2 dialogue.

kinopio_butsukaru_02 Ow ow ow owie ow ow... The other kinopio_butsukaru text is used for the Toad who crashes into Mario in Water's Edge Way. He says 01, runs into Mario and straightens himself out, then says 03. He does have a similar cry of pain when he runs into Mario in Warm Fuzzy Plains. This text is blanked in the British English version.

Due to the naming, likely meant to be after the second phase of the boss starts. The boss says nothing there in the final game.

Unused Museum Track

The Sticker Museum's music player has 29 tracks, with an unused 30th named "Scary Story" being listed in the text data. However, the code for the music player does not reference this text, nor does it assign an audio file to the title. Instead, the player loops back to the first track, "Detective Mario."

Given that the 29th track is "The Giant Arises," which plays in a cutscene before Bowser's fight in Bowser's Sky Castle, and that the music player does not include any battle themes, this title was likely intended for the song that plays in the cutscene after the first phase of the boss.

Hmmm...
To do:
Elaborate on "sorted by the file they were found in". Also, the ones with asterisks are just meant to be headers for the normal entries (used and unused), right?

The following text entries have no data. They are sorted by the file they were found in, in alphabetical order.

Unused Sound Effects

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Unused text-box voices, the scrapped Chain Chomp partner and King Mander have leftover voices.
  • Chain Chomp partner battle sound effects.
  • Unused enemy sound effects, the deleted "Zakomander" enemy seems to have a lot of leftover sounds in particular.
  • Unused sticker sound effects, there are some.
  • Leftover sounds from prototype mechanics.

Removed Audio

Hmmm...
To do:
  • There might be more.

Located in kdm_sound.bin are references to a few audio streams and sequences that don't actually appear in the finished game's files.

File Name Analysis
STRM_BGM_MAP_PORTTOWN_SHOP Some sort of shop theme for Surfshine Habor, the only shop theme to exist in the final game is internally labeled as STRM_BGM_MAP_SHOP instead.
STRM_BGM_KAMEK_BATTLE2 A second Kamek battle theme, this is not the low health variant as that one is referenced in the same file under STRM_BGM_KAMEK_BATTLE_PINCH.
TOWN_INN Some sort of Inn theme for Decalburg, which lacks an inn in the final game. It appears that this theme was removed much earlier than the others as no references to an audio stream remain.
SEQ_BGM_MAP_FIELD_TRUMP Unknown, some kind of sequence rather than a streamed audio file.

(Source: Original TCRF research)

Unused Falling Behavior

Hmmm...
To do:
Is the flapping behavior the same as the "fall from great height" behavior?

If Mario falls off a level, he will flap his arms and a sound effect will play (like in cutscenes where he falls), resulting in a Game Over. This isn't actually possible without clipping out of the stage with a glitch, or by hacking. However, Mario "falling outside a stage" is mentioned in the digital manual.
