Rayman Raving Rabbids is a party game from the Rayman saga. Rayman's world gets taken over by the titular Rabbids, where the main character unusually has little agency and control aside from serving as their personal gladiator. In the end, Rayman can only gather a surplus of plungers just so he can escape the Rabbids' prison.

It's also notable for being completely different from the traditional Rayman platformer series, although the original idea was to be a beat-em-up platformer with Rabbids. Few, if any elements from the previous games actually make an appearance, with minigames taking prominence above anything else.

Hmmm...
To do:
Quite literally everything since the Rayman 4 discoveries.

Inaccessible Minigames

World Eclecticism Championship

The game's final challenge, "World Eclecticism Championship" requires 174,000 out of 183,000 points to unlock. However, the challenge gives a total of 10,000 points, meaning that you will always be at least 1,000 points short of being able to unlock it without cheats.

Even if this was not the case, there are multiple minigames where getting the max score is impossible, making three achievements on Xbox 360 impossible. These minigames are Bunnies Are Fantastic Dancers Part 3, Bunninos Dansa La Bamba Parts 1 and 2 (each game is short a few Rabbids, the max scores are 993, 995, and 988 points respectively), The Pants-tathlon Tracksuit (this challenge features La Bamba Part 2), Bunnies Have A Poor Grasp of Anatomy (this minigame requires more precision than is possible), Bunnies Are Heartless With Pigs (on the PC version only, Rayman does not move fast enough to meet the time requirement), and Bunnies Don't Like Being Disturbed On Holiday (on the PC version only in Coop Timed mode, the time requirement is just 2'35"00, presumably on accident. This is simply not possible, this level generally takes over 3 minutes to complete).

This challenge includes Bunnies Have Natural Rhythm, Bunnies Don't Give Gifts, Bunnies Aren't Scared Of The Dark, Bunnies Can Only Fly Downwards, Bunnies Can't Herd, Bunnies Can't Slide, Bunnies Have A Great Ear For Music, Bunnies Have A Poor Grasp Of Anatomy, Bunnies Are Slow To React Part 3, and Deep Down, Bunnies Are Rockers Part 2.

Bunnies Are Shooting All Over The Place

This minigame is somewhat simple, it's either a quick duel minigame or a "shoot all the targets" minigame. This minigame might have inspired a similar minigame in its sequel Rayman Raving Rabbids 2's O.K Corral minigame. What is also noteworthy is that the Raymans are holding Wii Remotes in every version and the Wii Remote model alone is unused. For some reason, the description of the minigame refers to you as a Gringo, which is a word used for foreign people in Spanish.

Unused Skins

A "Burnt Rayman" skin was supposed to be one of the unlockable costumes, but was scrapped for unknown reasons. Its unlock text is still present in the game's files. There also is a debug skin without Rayman that was used to make the model creation process easier.

Unused Video

An unused video named DEFAULT.bik is on the PS2 version. It shows a Rabbid trying to unclog a toilet.

Version Differences

These are being compared to the Wii version.

PlayStation 2

  • There are no Rabbids on the rules menu.
  • Graphical effects were heavily reduced.
  • In the Ubisoft Montpellier logo, the Rabbid is holding a plunger instead of a Wii Remote and Nunchuk. This carries over to the Windows and Xbox 360 versions.

Windows

  • A new "Family Mode" was added.
  • Cropped 16:9 mode is available in the options menu.
Hmmm...
To do:
There are a lot more incredibly minor changes in this version and it'll take a while to write them all down here.

Xbox 360

This port was developed by Ubisoft Shanghai and released in April 2007, making it have several changes.

  • The Ubisoft Montpellier screen was reanimated, not having the "Ubisoft Montpellier Presents" text.
  • There are more graphical effects in general.
  • The Rabbid GIFs in the coliseum are higher quality and have more frames of animation.
  • The buttons above the coliseum doors were redesigned. They are also red when not beaten.
  • Cropped 16:9 mode is used when the console is set to 16:9. A few minigames are also shown in proper widescreen to show details.
  • In place of the Rabbids on the rules screen, there is an Xbox 360 controller showing the minigame's controls. New Rabbid animations were created for the Xbox Live Vision Camera.
  • Two exclusive minigames were added: Bunnies Don't Like Basketball and Bunnies Don't Like Rock, Paper, Scissor.
  • Functionality for the Xbox Live Vision Camera was added in several minigames. It varies from being a normal alternative to a controller (examples: Bunnies are Oversensitive & Timed Bunny Hunt) to barely functional (examples: All dance minigames). The way this works is that the camera tracks the outline of moving objects in front of it and projects it onto the game screen as stars.
  • The attract video is re-used from the PS2 version
  • The game features 16 achievements, 3 of which are unobtainable (4 if you count the Vision Camera achievement on the backwards compatible version) due to the fact obtaining the max score is impossible. Because of this, the unlocked description text for each goes unused:
RAYMAN LOVES DRAWING - You have collected all the 3 arkworks! [sic]
GREATEST RAYMAN EVER - You are the greatest Rayman Ever!
RAYMAN LOVES CHALLENGE - You have unlocked all the challenges!
  • The intros of the Bunny Hunt minigames show the Rabbids and baby Globox with a CRT filter, and Rayman inside a base watching them, revealing that the bunny hunts are in a virtual training facility.
  • The power-up crates in the Bunny Hunt mini-games have a white splotch on them instead of green/red. The power-up icon is still white though for some reason.
  • An option to change storage device was added to the options & pause menu. Strangely, selecting a different storage device from this option will overwrite the save on the device selected with empty data upon the game saving, instead of just restarting the game with the different save file.
  • Strangely, mashing the Y button upon starting either Bunnies Like A Race On The Beach or Bunnies Like A Good Cowboy Race causes Rayman to disappear & parts of the geometry to start flickering. Upon the countdown finishing, the console will crash. There is another variant of this bug where if you quickly restart, either all the racers fall under the map, or the eyes on the bunny costume's head will disappear. Both effects cause the map to disappear with music playing in the background and Rayman and the warthog will be making grunting sounds constantly while being stuck at 4th place.

Backwards Compatibility

  • When played on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, the game always runs at 60 FPS due to the frame rate being uncapped which can cause issues as seen below.
Bunnies Can't Fly Part 1 & 2

This mini-game is impossible to gain 1000 points in due to the frame rate, which is also an issue with the Wii version.

Shake Your Booty! minigames

The timing seems to be slightly off which can make the later songs nearly impossible to gain a perfect score on.

Control GIFs

The speed of the controller GIFs is tied to the frame rate, causing all of them to be sped up significantly. Although this was also present in the 360 version, here it affects every minigame.

Store Background

Like Gears of War & Saints Row among others, the background used on the Microsoft Store is different from the Xbox 360 Marketplace. This image was clearly made very quickly as whoever was responsible for it forgot to cut out the white background from the Rabbid image inside the net of the flyswatter.
